David Causier on Cloud Nine in Manchester
David Causier defeated Robert Marshall 844-290 to win the 2024 World Billiards British Open at Club 200 in Manchester, England.
The Englishman, who was playing in his first World Billiards event since securing the World Billiards Championship crown in October, was once again the man to beat as he lifted his ninth and final ranking event title of the year.
A total of 50 cueists competed in the event at the Club 200 venue, which opened earlier this year, with both top ranked Causier and world number two Peter Gilchrist among those in action in Manchester.
Causier stormed through his initial group with a clean sweep of victories and an aggregate scoreline of 2,619-405 across four matches.
Victories over Ireland’s Wayne Doyle and Wales’ Jason Goodwin then saw Causier reach the semi-finals, where he defeated reigning English national champion Robert Hall 526-382 in a repeat of this year’s World Billiards Championship final.
His opponent in the title match was Marshall, ranked 35th, who had come through the same group as Causier before stunning former world champion Gilchrist in the last 16 stage.
Further success against Jonathan Marwood and Peter Sheehan saw Marshall set up a rematch with the world number one in the final.
Causier once again proved too strong, however, as contributions of 117, 147 and 179 helped him to a comfortable win by a margin of 554 points to round off the year in style.
The World Billiards season continues with the UK Championship at the Landywood Snooker Club on 24-26 January 2025.
