Dhvaj Haria defeated Peter Gilchrist 1,035-597 in the final of the 2025 Walter Lindrum Australian Open to win his maiden World Billiards ranking event title.

The Indian cueist impressively overcame last year’s World Championship final Robert Hall and former world champion Gilchrist to win the title at The Yarraville Club in Yarraville, Australia.

A total of 41 cueists contested the event which began with a group stage that saw both eventual finalists offer impressive displays as they each advanced to the knockout stages with a clean sweep of victories.

Back-to-back victories over host nation players Todd Hayward and Rodney Nelson saw Haria reach the semi-finals where he faced former World Championship finalist and recently crowned English national champion Hall.

Breaks of 313, 211 and 200 helped the Indian cueist past Hall as a 990-456 victor to set up a final meeting with Gilchrist, who had defeated Australia’s Steve Mifsud in the last four.

The title match was a hard-fought contest but it was Haria who was able to compile top contributions of 196 and 189 to secure the victory and win a World Billiards ranking event title for the first time in his career.
