Peter Gilchrist defeated David Causier 938-618 in the final of the 2025 World Billiards European Open at The Trickshot Club in Bruges, Belgium.
The 57-year-old Singaporean representative came through a field of 31 players in dramatic fashion to win the level five world ranking event.
The second part of a double-header in Bruges, which also included the Belgian Open won by Causier last week, began with a group stage and Gilchrist was in impressive form as he picked up a clean sweep of victories over Paul McGowan, Mel Oakes, Michael Decousemaecker and Alan Carson to reach the knockout stages.
Further wins against the English duo of Phil Johnson and Jonathan Marwood saw Gilchrist set up a last four meeting with last year’s World Championship runner-up Robert Hall.
The semi-final clash was a hard-fought and dramatic affair that went right down to the wire as an unfinished break of 320 saw the Singapore cueist earn a late victory by a winning margin of just six points.
As was the case in the first event of the double-header, the title match saw Gilchrist joined by reigning world champion Causier after he comfortably downed Dhruv Sitwala 1,254-375 to reach the final.
Gilchrist had been defeated by Causier in the Belgian Open but exacted revenge on the Englishman as a top contribution of 306 helped him to earn a 938-618 victory and take home the title.
