Former world champion Ken Doherty and ex-Minister of Sport Richard Caborn were headline speakers at the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association’s (WPBSA) annual coaching seminar held on Friday evening in Sheffield.
Hosted at the Leonardo Hotel in Sheffield during the 2025 Halo World Snooker Championship, the seminar was attended by WPBSA coaches who have qualified across the three levels of the WPBSA Coaching Programme.
The evening was hosted by the WPBSA’s Head of Coaching and Training Development Manager Chris Lovell and began with joint speakers 1997 world champion Doherty and WPBSA Chairman Jason Ferguson, who faced each other in the 1989 World Under-21 Championship final won by ‘The Darling of Dublin’ who recounted their career highlights.
Former Sheffield Central MP and Minister of Sport Caborn was the concluding speaker of the evening as he discussed his career in politics and sport, which included being the Prime Minister’s ambassador for England’s 2018 FIFA World Cup bid.
Ferguson, guest speaker and WPBSA Chairman, said: “The WPBSA Coaching Seminar is always a significant date on our annual calendar as we celebrate our officially qualified team of coaches from around the world. I would like to thank Chris Lovell who organised the event, as well as our guest speakers Ken Doherty and Richard Caborn who shared some fantastic stories with our coaches.”
The WPBSA would like to thank guest speakers Ken Doherty and Richard Caborn, the Leonardo Hotel in Sheffield for hosting the event and all the WPBSA coaches who attended the evening.
