Bio

China’s Chang Bingyu defeated compatriot Zhao Xintong 10-7 to win the first ranking event title of his career at the 2026 Wuhan Open.

An incredible run on home soil saw Chang beat Liu Hongyu, Ali Carter, Judd Trump and Ronnie O’Sullivan to reach the final before overcoming former world champion Zhao in the title match.

Chang had reached the first ranking event final of his career the previous year at the 2025 Scottish Open during a week that saw him defeat Stephen Maguire, Si Jiahui, Kyren Wilson, Mark Selby and Mark Allen in Edinburgh.

He earned a two-year World Snooker Tour (WST) tour card by defeating Ryan Thomerson 6-1 to win the 2025 Asia-Pacific Snooker Championship in Albury, Australia. The success marked a return to the professional ranks for Chang after receiving a two-year ban from professional competition in 2023.

Born in 2002, he first turned professional in 2019 having earned his position due to his results on the CBSA Tour.

Chang had previously competed as an amateur at ranking events including the 2018 China Championship where he defeated Jimmy Robertson and Mark Davis to reach the last 32 before losing to eventual champion Mark Selby.

He equalled this run three years later at the 2021 UK Championship, defeating Sam Craigie and former runner-up Mark Allen, before losing 6-5 to compatriot Zhou Yuelong in the third round.

In 2025, he reached the last 16 of the Saudi Arabia Masters with notable wins against David Gilbert and Allen before losing out to Ronnie O’Sullivan.
