Bio

From Tyne & Wear, David Lilley reached the quarter-finals of a ranking event for the first time at the 2016, having notably competed in the event as an amateur.

Having down the likes of former world champion Mark Williams along the way, he ultimately lost out 4-2 to Shaun Murphy in Hyderabad.

A three-time winner of the English Amateur Championship (1997, 1999 & 2004), Lilley had been an established amateur player for several years, also having won the EBSA European Championship in 1995 and twice finished as runner-up at the World Amateur Championship.

He turned professional for the first time in May 2019 having successfully come through Q School Event 1.

Having fallen off the tour at the end of his initial two-year spell, Lilley competed as an amateur during the 2021/22 season, winning the first event of the new WPBSA Q Tour. He would subsequently regain his place on the World Snooker Tour for the following season via the one-year ranking list due to his performances at professional events as an amateur top up player.

In 2021, he defeated Philip Williams, Ken Doherty, Patrick Wallace and in the final Jimmy White, to win the World Seniors Championship for the first time.

Off-table

He previously worked in the insurance industry, but in September 2018 took the decision to quit his long-term job in order to commit himself to snooker.
