Hong Yu Liu joined the World Snooker Tour at the start of the 2023/24 season following his victory at the 2023 Asia-Pacific Championship in New Zealand.
Aged 19, the Chinese player defeated Wang Yuchen 6-1 in the final of the continental event to turn professional for the first time.
Earlier in 2023, Hong also reached the quarter-finals of the World Snooker Federation Championship in Australia, losing to compatriot and eventual champion Ma Hai Long.
