Bio

Matthew Selt ended a 17-year wait to claim his first ranking silverware with victory at the 2019 Indian Open in Kochi.

The Englishman notably ended the reign of defending champion John Higgins in the semi-finals before going on to defeat Lyu Haotian 5-3 to secure the biggest win of his career.

Having first turned professional in 2002, Selt has been an ever-present on the tour since 2007 and in addition to glory in India also reached the final of the 2022 Turkish Masters, as well as the semi-finals of the 2019 Riga Masters and 2021 Gibraltar Open.

In 2014 he reached his first tour final at the Lisbon Open (classified as a minor ranking event), losing 4-2 to Stephen Maguire.

He has twice competed at the televised stages of the World Championship at the Crucible but is yet to win a match at snooker’s most iconic venue, in 2015 narrowly losing 10-9 to former finalist Barry Hawkins.
