Former professional Steve Lemmens has died at the age of 44.

Belgium’s Lemmens played on the pro tour from 1991 to 1995 and his best run took him to the last 32 of the 1993 Welsh Open, winning six matches before losing to John Parrott.

WPBSA Chairman Jason Ferguson said: “This is very sad news and our deepest sympathies are with Steve’s family. I knew Steve well when we were both young professionals on the tour. He was a very talented player.”

Paying tribute on Facebook, Stuart Bingham wrote: ‘Gutted. Remember him making a max in 1996 world amateur in New Zealand. RIP Steve.’

And Joe Swail added: ‘Gutted…remember what a talented player he was..can’t understand this..RIP.’
