A recent Level 1 WPBSA Snooker Coach Course held at the Northern Snooker Centre in Leeds has received high praise from those involved.

Led by WPSBA’s Head of Coaching and Training Development Manager Chris Lovell and WPBSA Advanced Snooker Coach Andrew Highfield, one participant described the Level 1 course as “the ideal way to get started on your journey. The course is very insightful and delivered by people who have the experience and passion to help you in every aspect.”

The first of three levels in the WPBSA coaching programme, the Level 1 course is an entry level one-day course aimed at increasing participation in snooker and provides you with the skills to organise snooker safely and independently in your community for players of all ages and abilities.

The course provides an introduction on how to coach the basics of the game delivered by Andrew Highfield, together with an overview of how the WPBSA as snooker’s world governing body is supporting grassroots development of the sport globally.

As part of the course, you will also receive extensive Child Protection and Safeguarding training certified by UK Coaching delivered by Chris Lovell.

Another participant of the recent session in Leeds said: “I was impressed by the location which has around 30 snooker tables, of which 10 were booked for our course. We were welcomed with snacks which opened the door to casual talks – the best way for the 20 of us to get to know each other.

“The course content had everything one needs to begin coaching in snooker in a professional way. We ended with some easy drills competing in teams of four which gave the session the fun touch. I just can’t wait to join again for the 2nd level!”

Following the session, Head of Coaching and Training Development Manager Chris Lovell said “it was great to welcome 20 new snooker coaches to our coaching team from around the world. Their passion and commitment throughout the course was outstanding and we wish them every success in their coaching journey”
