World Snooker and WPBSA were greatly saddened this week to hear the news that Chen Xijuan, mother of Ding Junhui, has died at the age of 55.

After a long battle against cancer, Chen Xijuan passed away earlier this week.

WPBSA Chairman Jason Ferguson said: “Our hearts go out to Ding, his father Ding Wenjun and all of their family, at this terribly sad time.

“Chen Xijuan was a wonderful, kind and friendly person. She was present for many of Ding’s greatest victories both in the UK and China, and she must have taken tremendous pride from the way her son has developed as a snooker player and a person. She and Ding’s father deserve great credit.

“I’m sure all of our players and officials will join me in expressing great sympathy for Ding when he returns to the tour.”

Ronnie O’Sullivan was among players to pay tribute on Twitter, saying: “A truly wonderful wonderful woman. Thoughts are with Ding and his family.”

Ken Doherty added: “Very sorry to hear about the passing of Momma Ding, a wonderful lady. Used to enjoy her lovely food after practice with Ding up in the Academy. My condolences to Ding and all the family and friends. May she rest in peace.”
