The second annual World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA) Players Golf Day took place last week at the Forest of Arden Country Club.
The event was arranged by WPBSA Players, in conjunction with Great Days Golf, and took place on Thursday 29 May with 17 teams represented from across snooker as well as other sports who competed for bragging rights and a number of prizes.
Among those in attendance at the event were former world champions Ken Doherty, John Parrott, Shaun Murphy and Neil Robertson as well as a host of other current tour players, former professionals and invited guests.
The day began with a welcome speech from 1997 world champion and current chair of WPBSA Players Doherty before the teams took to the tees for a shotgun start.
The round of golf took place on the championship course and included added competitions such as ‘Beat the Pro’ – where PGA professional Hannah Bowen entertained the teams on the 18th ‘party’ hole with music and fancy dress, as well as ‘Longest Drive’, ‘Hole in One’ and ‘Nearest the Pin’ challenges.
Finally, the teams returned to the marquee where a host of prizes were awarded with Mitchell Mann claiming the leading snooker player, scoring an impressive 38 points in challenging conditions on the Arden Course beating Joe O’Connor and Louis Heathcote into second and third place respectively. The team prize was won by Jones Corporate with Tom Clark, Mark Jones, Will Bamford and Chris Mullens just edging TW Sports Management on count back with 84 points.
Neil Tomkins, Player Relations Manager, said: “The WPBSA Players Golf Day is a great opportunity to get people from across snooker and other sports together in a relaxed environment. It is becoming a firm fixture on the snooker calendar and one which is a favourite among those who take part, and we are already looking forward to next year”.
