The World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA) has announced that Shaun Murphy has stepped down from his role as WPBSA Players chairman and as a result will also step down from the WPBSA.
Having previously served on the WPBSA Board from 2017-19, Murphy was elected to the Board of WPBSA Players in December 2023 and subsequently became chairman of the body in May 2024. He also joined the Board of the WPBSA in February 2024 as a non-executive player director.
The 2005 world champion and recent Masters champion has cited his increased workload on and off the table as the reason for his decision to step down at this time and wished the organisation every success moving forward.
Jason Ferguson, WPBSA Chairman said: “I would like to thank Shaun for his service during his time with us. Shaun has been a real leader for the players and was with us from the beginning of creating the concept of WPBSA Players as an arm’s length player led organisation.
“Despite his heavy workload at WPBSA Players he has managed to produce incredible form on the table, which is testament to the quality of the player that he is, and I wish him all the best for the future.”
