O’Sullivan Qualifies For World Grand Prix

Ronnie O’Sullivan tonight secured his qualification for this season’s Ladbrokes World Grand Prix following his record-equalling fourth triumph at the Welsh Open in Cardiff.

Prior to the start of the tournament O’Sullivan, who reached the final of the World Grand Prix last season in Llandudno, found himself down in 110th place on the qualification list and knowing that nothing less than the title would do this week if he was to qualify for the event next month.

His victory this evening in Cardiff however earns him £60,000, which added to the £1,500 that he earned at the German Masters is enough to see him soar up the World Grand Prix list. In fact he will rise 99 places to 11th, guaranteeing his qualification for the tournament, regardless of the outcome of the final counting event in Gdynia next weekend.

O’Sullivan will now have until Wednesday’s entry deadline to confirm whether he intends to take up his place in Llandudno, with that tournament set to run from 8-13 March.
