WPBSA Guide Showcased at World Abilitysport Conference

The WPBSA is thrilled to be showcasing its Therapeutic Value of Snooker guide at this week’s 2023 World Abilitysport Conference on Physical Activity and Health for People with Cerebral Palsy and other Neurological conditions.

On the eve of the guide’s first anniversary, following its launch at last season’s UK Championship in York, conference delegates from around the world will have the opportunity to learn more about how snooker can contribute to physical, mental and social health benefits, alongside its role in reducing inequalities.

The conference will take place at the University of Edinburgh from 20-21 October.  Among the keynote speakers at the event is Dr Mike Peters, the CEO of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC).

The guide will be exhibited alongside a range of academic and practical resources that can widen opportunities for people with long-term health conditions, with a particular focus on cerebral palsy.  Indeed, several players who have cerebral palsy take part in the World Disability Billiards and Snooker (WDBS) tour.

The organisation leading the conference is familiar to the WPBSA following the recent announcement that snooker will be a medal-contested sport for the first time at the forthcoming 2023 World Abilitysport Games in Thailand.

Both the therapeutic guide’s recognition and snooker’s involvement in the upcoming Games emphasise the sport’s growing status on the international stage and its strong ambitions to return to the Paralympic Games.
