The World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA) has today announced that Shaun Murphy and Nigel Bond are to join its Governance Board as non-executive Player Directors with immediate effect.

Both players have been nominated to join the Governance Board by WPBSA Players, after former directors Mike Dunn and Peter Lines failed to secure re-election to the Board of WPBSA Players in December 2023.

England’s Shaun Murphy remains a leading player in our sport, who has previously won the World Championship, UK Championship and Masters, during a distinguished career to date. Similarly, former British Open champion Nigel Bond has over 30-years’ experience as a professional on the World Snooker Tour and continues to compete at prestigious amateur tournaments, last season winning the English Over-55s Championship for the first time.

Jason Ferguson, WPBSA Governance Chairman said: “I am delighted to welcome both Shaun and Nigel to the Board of WPBSA Governance.

“I have known both for many years and unquestionably they each bring a wealth of valuable experience from our sport to the team. I am looking forward to working with them on the many exciting projects that we have within the WPBSA Group and to the continued growth of snooker over the coming years.”

Shaun Murphy, 2005 world champion, said: “I am excited by today’s announcement and to be able to play my part in the future development of the WPBSA and our sport as a whole. I am passionate about the future of our sport at all levels, from professional to grassroots, and look forward to supporting the next generation of talent.”

Nigel Bond, former world number 5 said: “I am pleased to be able to join the Board of WPBSA Players and to be able to further contribute to the development of snooker. Having played at the highest level of our sport for over 30 years, I know what it takes to succeed and of the key issues facing our players.

“In recent years I have enjoyed being a part of the WPBSA Coaching team as we train the next generation of both players and the coaches themselves, and I look forward to continuing to support these projects in the future.”
