British Open to Return to Women’s Calendar
The British Open is set to return to the World Women’s Snooker Tour for the first time in three years at the Winchester Snooker Club in Leicester, England this autumn.
Set to be held across the weekend of 16-17 October 2021, the tournament will be the third ranking event of the 2021/22 calendar, following the UK Championship and Australian Open.
Won most recently by record six-time champion Reanne Evans in 2018, the prestigious British Open has been contested on 25 previous occasions on the WWS Tour, with only the World and UK Championship tournaments held more often.
The tournament will also represent the first to be hosted on the WWS Tour by the Winchester Snooker Club, a venue which has previously hosted WST Challenge Tour events with distinction (see above image) and is a long-standing member of the 147 Club affiliation scheme operated by the English Partnership for Snooker and Billiards (EPSB).
With 12 full-size snooker tables – including three XingPai – and a spacious bar area with hot and cold food available, the club has fantastic facilities and is committed to supporting all grassroots snooker and the development of our sport.
Mandy Fisher, WWS President said: “I am delighted that we are able to restore the British Open to our calendar this season. With a history dating back to 1983, the tournament is historically one of our most prestigious titles and one that I was honoured to have been able to win back in 1988.
“Following an extremely challenging 18 months, it is both exciting and energising to be able to add new dates to the diary for what we expect to be a busy 2021/22 season and I have no doubt that this addition will be welcomed by all.
“I would like to thank both Mukesh and Svetlana Parmar at the Winchester for their support and commitment, without which this event would not be possible. The Winchester is an excellent example of a modern snooker club, and I cannot wait to see everybody there!”
