Snooker has a new Guinness World Record Holder as Liverpool’s Sean Maddocks has been officially recognised as the youngest player to score a maximum 147 break in competition.

The youngster was just 15 years and 90 days old when he compiled the break during his last 32 match against Jake Nicholson at the LITEtask Pro-Am Series in Leeds, England, on 9 July 2017. His feat eclipses the previous record held by five-time world champion Ronnie O’Sullivan by eight days.

A talented junior, Maddocks is coached by Neil Johnson and is the current Merseyside Open champion, having defeated former English Amateur Championship runner-up John Whitty in the final last November. He also recently made his 100th century break and hopes to qualify to play on the World Snooker Tour in the future.

Neil Johnson said: “I’ve trained Sean from the age of 10 and could see he had something special from the very beginning. Thankfully he also has a great work ethic to go with his undoubted talent.

“As with all young players, there is still a long way to go if he is to achieve his potential, but he has as good a chance as anyone that I’m aware of and I hope that he can push on from here!
