Scotland’s Stephen Maguire has today made a maximum 147 break during the third frame of his day two match against Yi Chen Xu at the Shanghai Masters.
Maguire, who had already hit a 130 to win the opening frame, compiled what was his third career maximum break during the third frame of their wildcard round match. He becomes the third player to make a 147 at the Shanghai Masters after Jamie Cope in 2008 and most recently fellow Scot John Higgins in 2012.
The world number 20 is the 11th player to make three or more maximum breaks in professional competition, with previous runs at the 2000 Scottish Masters (when he became the youngest player at the time to make a maximum break), and the 2008 China Open.
If the break is not equalled between now and the end of the tournament, Maguire will take the current rolling 147 prize of £5,000, plus the televised high break prize of £2,000.
The break was officiated by Tang Xu.
