The World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA) has today announced that Nigel Oldfield has joined its Governance Board as a Director of Sports Development and Operations with immediate effect.
Having first joined the WPBSA in 1988 as Assistant Tournament Director, Oldfield was heavily involved in the amateur game and creation of tour pathways to the professional game.
He was also instrumental in gaining IOC and Commonwealth Sports recognition for snooker and remains a well-respected figure around the sporting world.
In 2010 he joined the Board of World Snooker Limited as Director of Operations where he managed unprecedented growth in the WST event calendar until his retirement earlier this year.
Through his own agency Nigel Oldfield Sports Promotions (NOSP), he has significant experience across a range of sports and major sporting events.
Jason Ferguson, WPBSA Chairman said: “We are delighted that Nigel has agreed to join the WPBSA board. He brings a wealth of experience to the team and brings his safe pair of hands to assist with the many WPBSA projects going on around the world through the WPBSA Group of organisations.”
Nigel Oldfield said: “This is an area of snooker I have always enjoyed being in and I am looking forward to working with Jason and rest of team.
“Having now retired from WST, I am excited by this new opportunity and hope to use my knowledge and experience to help develop the sport further.”
