Bio

Thailand’s Akani Songsermsawad, also known as Sunny Akani, turned professional in 2015 and is a two-time ranking event quarter-finalist.

He secured his place on the World Snooker Tour for the first time by winning the 2015 Asian Under-21 Championship with a 6-4 victory against China’s Yuan Sijun.

Having only competed in the season-ending World Championship (losing 10-9 to Thepchaiya Un-Nooh) during the 2015/16 campaign, he made an impressive start to his first full season as he reached his first ranking event quarter-final at the 2016 Indian Open.

He repeated the feat two years later at the Shoot Out in Watford, losing out to England’s Martin O’Donnell in the last eight.

In 2017 Akani also reached the last 16 of the UK Championship, narrowly losing out to eventual champion Ronnie O’Sullivan in a deciding frame.
