Bio

Fan Zhengyi achieved a career-breakthrough at the 2022 European Masters when he defeated Ronnie O’Sullivan 10-9 to win his first ranking event title as a 750-1 outsider.

Ranked in 80th position at the start of the tournament and having reached just one quarter-final previously, Fan recorded a string of impressive wins against Kyren Wilson, Yan Bingtao, David Gilbert and Graeme Dott to reach the final, before stunning six-time world champion O’Sullivan to lift the trophy.

He had previously reached the last eight of the German Masters just weeks earlier and in claiming the European Masters title became the fifth player from mainland China to win a ranking title.

The following season saw Fan reach the semi-finals of the Champion of Champions, before he came back from 0-4 down to defeat Stephen Maguire at the World Championship qualifiers, to earn a place at the Crucible Theatre for the first time in his career.

The 2023/24 season saw Fan reach the quarter-finals of both the British Open and German Masters, as well as the Shanghai Masters on home soil.

At the 2024 English Open, Fan made his first career maximum break in a 4-2 victory over Liam Pullen.

Early Career

Fan turned professional for the first time in 2018 following his victory at the World Under-21 Championship, regaining his tour card two years later by successfully coming through Q School 2020.
