Bio

Nottingham’s Michael Holt claimed his first full-ranking event title after 24 years as a professional at the 2020 Shoot Out in Watford.

A regular inside of the world’s top 32 ranked players, the Englishman had previously reached the finals of the Riga Masters in 2016 and the Shoot Out in 2019, before he broke his title duck with victory against Zhou Yuelong.

Holt has also won two minor ranking events during his career and qualified to play at the televised stages of the World Championship on no fewer than eight separate occasions, twice reaching the last 16 (2005 and 2016).

He reached a career-high world ranking of 20 in 2013, in part thanks to a run to his first ranking event semi-final at the Shanghai Masters. In 2016 Holt notably recorded three victories against Ronnie O’Sullivan at ranking events.

Holt dropped of the World Snooker Tour in 2023 but returned following a one-year absence by finishing as the top ranked played on the 2023/24 Q Tour UK/Europe series. During his first season back on the Tour, he notably reached the quarter-finals of the 2024 UK Championship for the first time since 1999.

Away from the table, Holt has been married since June 2017 and has studied for a business degree from the Open University.
