World number 71 Zak Surety crafted the first maximum break of his career, during his clash with home hero Ding Junhui at the Huading Nylon World Open in Yushan.
Essex cueman Surety made the perfect break in the seventh frame of his meeting with Chinese icon Ding to reduce his arrears to 4-3. However, he would go on to lose by a 5-3 scoreline.
It puts Surety, whose previous highest tournament run was 136, in line for the £5,000 high break prize.
The magical maximum was the 201st official 147 break in snooker history and the 12th of the season.
Surety said: “I tried to come out and compose myself (after the 147), but as I came back in I was a bit overwhelmed, thinking to myself did that really just happen? I knew I was playing well and had a perfect chance in the next frame, but I was in a daze.
“I’ve never got close in a tournament, even in amateur events and pro-ams I’ve only got to 40 odd. I’ve never really gone for them. I just fancied it today, but I never thought I was going to get close to one.”
