Shaun Murphy joined the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA) board as a non-executive Players Director in February 2024.

One of the leading players in the sport, Murphy reached the pinnacle of the snooker world in 2005 at the age of just 22 when he defeated Matthew Stevens in the final at the Crucible Theatre to win the World Championship.

The twelve-time ranking event winner completed the Triple Crown in 2015 by winning the Masters at Alexandra Palace, having previously won the UK Championship seven years earlier.

Murphy joined the coaching team in 2017 and is part of the team responsible for delivering the Level 3 Advanced Course to coaches. In addition, he is a popular pundit and commentator for snooker on the BBC.

Upon joining the WPBSA board, Murphy said “I am excited by today’s announcement and to be able to play my part in the future development of the WPBSA and our sport as a whole. I am passionate about the future of our sport at all levels, from professional to grassroots, and look forward to supporting the next generation of talent.”
