We are today delighted to confirm that entry is now open to the upcoming Stockport Open (Groups 1-6) and Hull Open (Groups 7-8) as World Disability Billiards and Snooker (WDBS) competitions return for the first time in over 18 months.
Announced last month following consultation with the WDBS Return to Sport Committee and in line with the latest governance guidance, the planned tournaments will ensure that every player has the opportunity to return to competition in 2021.
Both weekends will begin with a Friday Open Day at which players with any disability or level of experience are encouraged to come and try snooker under the guidance of qualified WPBSA Snooker Coaches.
The events have been sponsored by Hull-based digital media agency INIT Creative, who have provided artwork and promotional material for both weekends. Further sponsorship opportunities remain available for both weekends.
To ensure that our return to play is managed as safely as possible, we can today also issue our WDBS Covid-19 protocols, together with a helpful ‘Dos and Don’ts’ document to help everyone present to stay as safe as possible.
All players are strongly encouraged to read these documents carefully and be aware of their contents prior to attending either event.
The WDBS Tour will return to the Hazel Grove Snooker Club in Stockport from 15-17 October with a Groups 1-6 competition for players with physical and intellectual disabilities.
Newly refurbished since our previous visit in January 2020, new LED table lighting, a refurbished bar area and a full repaint of the entire property means that the club has never been in better shape to host a fantastic weekend of snooker for our players.
Also set to return for a record fifth staging will be the Hull Open, which will once again take place at the Tradewell Snooker Club from 12-14 November 2021.
As in previous years, the tournament will be open to players from Groups 7-8 with sensory disabilities, e.g. those with visual disabilities or who are deaf.
Since our previous visit, the club has seen the installation of a stunning new 80-seater match room which has already seen the likes of Ronnie O’Sullivan, Ken Doherty and Jimmy White take to the baize.
Entry for all WDBS events is made through the WPBSA SnookerScores website:
Your entry will only be formally accepted upon receipt of your online entry AND payment of your entry fee by the event entry deadline.
