Mark Williams became the oldest player to make an official maximum break during his quarter-final clash with Neil Robertson at the BetVictor English Open.

The 47-year-old Welshman’s perfect break came in the fourth frame, after he had lost the first three to Robertson’s runs of 73, 97 and 100.

Williams made his first official 147 at the 2005 World Championship and his second at a PTC event in 2010. He becomes the 21st player to make three or more 147s. He will bank the £5,000 tournament high break prize unless the maximum is equalled.

It’s the seventh maximum of the season and 183rd in snooker history.
