The World Professional Billiards & Snooker Association (WPBSA) hosted its first WPBSA Players Charity Golf Day on Thursday in support of The Jessie May Trust.

The event was arranged by WPBSA Players, with support from Great Days Golf, and took place at the Forest of Arden Resort & Country Club on Thursday 8 August with 18 teams of four competing for a number of prizes and to raise funds for an important cause.

Formed in 1994, The Jessie May Trust provides specialist nursing care for terminally ill children in their own homes. They offer end of life care and bereavement support, as well as vital respite sessions and emotional support to those children’s families which allows families to make the most of the precious time they have together and to create treasured family memories.

Among those in attendance at the event were WST CEO Steve Dawson, Matchroom Sport President Barry Hearn, former world champions Shaun Murphy, Ken Doherty, John Parrott as well as many other professional snooker players and invited guests.

The day began with an introduction from WPBSA Players Chairman Murphy and Player Relations Manager Neil Tomkins before the teams took to the tees for a shotgun start.

Following a round of golf on the championship course, which included added competitions such as ‘Beat the Pro’ – where PGA professional Hannah Bowen entertained the teams on the 18th ‘party’ hole with music and fancy dress, as well as ‘Beat the Pirate’ and a ‘Putting Challenge’ along the way.

The rain didn’t dampen spirits and, following the golf, the teams gathered for a food, a charity auction, a Q&A session with Murphy, Doherty and Parrott and finally the awarding of the prizes to the winning teams and individuals.

Reanne Evans walked away with the spoils after the twelve-time World Women’s champion scored a 51 points in tough conditions on the Arden Course. Evans also led her ‘WPBSA Players’ team to victory by narrowly pipping the ‘Futures Sport’ team to the title.

Neil Tomkins, Player Relations Manager, said: “We are delighted by the overwhelming success of the first WPBSA Players Golf Day, where players, sponsors, and officials came together in the spirit of competitive fun on the course. It was a privilege to welcome guests from football, cricket, darts, and golf, fostering connections that transcend our own sport. This event marks the beginning of a new tradition, and we look forward to building on this success in the years ahead.”

Shaun Murphy, 2005 world champion and Chairman of WPBSA Players, said: “A great day was had by everyone on and off the course at the inaugural WPBSA Players Charity Gold Day in aid of The Jessie May Trust. On behalf of my fellow directors at WPBSA Players I would like to thank everyone who helped make the day a success – from our administrators, the Forest of Arden, our sponsors and all the players who took part. Congratulations to all the winners and we look forward to welcoming back old friends and making new ones next year!”

WPBSA Players would like to thank all the competitors and everyone at the Forest of Arden Hotel & Country Club and Great Days Golf for their support with the WPBSA Players Charity Golf Day.
