Champion of Champions 2019 – Guangzhou Update

Shaun Murphy became the latest player to book their place at November’s ManBetX Champion of Champions after his dramatic victory at the Evergrande China Championship last Sunday.

The 37-year-old, who won at the Ricoh Arena back in 2017, was among a number of high profile players not yet assured of his place at this year’s event with just three chances to go following a difficult run of form last season. Following his success against Mark Williams on Guangzhou last week however, he is now assured of his place at the competition after all as a ranking event winner.

His success means that with just the 19.com English Open and World Open events to go prior to the all-important cut-off point, Jimmy White remains next in line should there be one more ‘repeat’ winner at those two events, with Mark Williams next in line to take advantage should selection revert to the world ranking list.

Qualification for the event will be determined by the winners of professional tournaments dating back to Ronnie O’Sullivan’s victory in 2018, events having been ordered in a specific line of priority as set out below.
