Reigning World Billiards champion and top ranked player Peter Gilchrist has been crowned Sportsman of the Year for the second time at the Singapore Sports Awards this week.
Middlesbrough-born Gilchrist, 52, became a Singapore citizen in 2006 and was first crowned Sportsman of the Year in 2014.
Last year he defeated Sourav Kothari 1307-967 to lift his fourth WPBSA World Championship title in Melbourne, following previous wins in 1994, 2001 and 2013.
Gilchrist told The Straits Times that receiving the honour for a second time was a “dream come true” and that he is “raring to go” once competition can resume following the current suspension of activity due to the coronavirus pandemic.
