As well as the battle for places in the Players Championship Grand Finals which came to a conclusion today in Gdynia, another race that was decided at the sixth event of this season’s Kreativ Dental European Tour was that for places at the new World Grand Prix in Llandudno.
The invitational event, which is set to be held in Wales from 16-22 March 2015, will see the top 32 players on a one-year ranking list running from last season’s Dafabet World Championship, to this weekend’s Gdynia Open in Poland, compete for a £100,000 top prize live on ITV4.
As the action unfolded this weekend, the battle for places was in fact not resolved until Jimmy Robertson’s defeat to Mark Williams at the semi-final stages in Poland, which meant that Jimmy would just fall short of overtaking 32nd placed Michael Holt.
The Hitman had faced an anxious wait on other results following his defeat to Igor Figueiredo in the opening round, but can now breathe a sigh of relief that he will be in the new tournament.
The 32 qualifying players are as follows, with Ireland’s Fergal O’Brien narrowly missing out, finishing just £83 behind Holt:
Matches will be played over the best of 7 frames up to and including the quarter-finals, the semi-finals over the best of 11 and the final over the best of 19.
Tickets for the event are still available by calling 01492 872 000 or booking online with SEE tickets
